Metaphorically, Reimer’s installation is a meditation on the larger collapse of cultural foundations and our capacity to live on the earth at all, let alone in buildings, in the climate of the future. Furthermore, the project continues her investigation of the Japanese art Kintsukuroi or “golden repair”, a tradition used to restore precious broken pottery with gold leaf, treating the breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
