Though mining different histories and visual cultures, Maia Cruz Palileo (b. Chicago, 1979) and Ebony G. Patterson (b. Kingston, Jamaica, 1981) strive to elevate the mundane to a higher plane of existence. Notably, this elevating endeavor vis-à-vis their subjects is reflected in their chosen processes and materials; each artist innovatively utilizes the potential of paper, that most fundamental of creative tools.
