moniquemeloche is pleased to present a solo exhibition at Independent New Yok featuring new works by Harlem-based artist David Shrobe. Titled Natura Symbiosis, works on view are part of an ongoing series that continues the artist's practice of mining familial, historical, and online archives to construct his own cosmologies. Through a complex layering of found objects, painting, drawing and textile, Shrobe provokes our sense of touch and engages ideas surrounding our origin story, exploration, nature, and traditional healing practices. Oval shaped orifices become portals into alternate realities where figures commingle and intertwine in his liminal spaces and whom for Shrobe, carry a kind of hybrid identity, their presence both regal and earthly, ghostly and otherworldly.
