Essentially, information on the European sculptures is more accessible, identifiable with a bounty of academic research and study. For this particular form, it is a Roman statue of the god, Apollo. However, information on the African sculptures is less researched and the origins could be dubious, with little to no academic support, which ultimately feeds into the conceptual framework of the series. We are working on a statement that will properly outline this concept while also providing more insight into this work. It is important to note that Sanford is interested in archetypes when selecting the forms.
