About the Exhibition
Currently on view in porcelain projects: William Villalongo, Water Root
Primarily an artist that works in painting and 2D, Water Root (2012) is William Villalongo’s first video film project. In collaboration with the poet Nicole Sealey, the artist’s recent paintings come to life. Real actors are transformed into the graphic characters from his paintings while the poem that narrates the video muses on the distances between mortality and immortality, heroic efforts and futility. Based on the Mythos of the goddess Diana the Huntress, Water Root synthesizes image and poetry, giving a glimpse into a day in the life of a fictional group of woodland dwelling women. Within the time it takes to make a painting, these mythical maidens form a bond between art and survival. This film is part of Look At Me Now!, a group exhibition curated by Allison Glenn.
